Insects and Stories

Insects - we looked at the environment where they live and what they eat, so the children at St Marys Blinky Bills Pre-School created a grassy leaf environment to display in our room. Felt board stories were told where children began to understand that all stories are not written.

Road Safety and Exercise

We have been focusing on road safety this week with holding hands when going outside with grown ups, and exercise which keeps our bodies healthy. Musical statues and the hokey pokey were enjoyed by all children and staff with body parts being identified.

Worlds Biggest Morning Tea

This week has been a busy one with our biggest morning tea going all week, with donations and cups of tea have been flowing each day. We have raised $130.00 in donations. Well done to everyone.

St Marys Blinky Bills Pre-School management team have decided to match this amount taking the count to $260.00 in total. This amount will be forwarded on to the Cancer Council.

Mothers Day

With last week being a short week we listened to all the exciting stories from the children about what they did on their holiday break over Easter, some went to the Easter show and some went camping, most stayed home and enjoyed eating Easter eggs.
During this week we have been talking about our Mums, reading stories and drawing wonderful pictures of Mums and Nans. Our easel has been extremely busy painting flowers and faces to give to Mum on their special day. Our special guessing competition is fun with some Mums turning the bottle upside down in an attempt to count the items inside to place the winning number on the board. Have a wonderful Mothers Day to everyone.

Easter Hat Parade

All the children showed off their hats made with love and sticky tape in the Easter Hat Parade. The hot cross buns also went like hotcakes and we had a visit from the “Easter Bunny”. Also we celebrated children’s birthdays with ice cream cakes and we discussed more about road safety.

Three Little Pigs, an Invitation to Play

This week the children had an opportunity to explore story telling through play by using props.
The children used this activity to become confidently involved learners by using their creativity, curiosity, imagination and exploration. It’s also a great opportunity for social interaction and communication.

Munch & Move

Through the NSW Dept of Health which promoted “Munch & Move” in October 2010, St Marys Blinky Bills Pre-School entered a competition showing how the centre implemented the initiatives promoted. This resulted in a $500.00 grant in January 2011 to supplement our centre supplies to promote physical and nutritional development. We followed this up last month winning a second $500.00 grant. Parents and staff should be rightly proud of their centre. Through our program we maintain a continuous balance of physical and nutritional experiences.

St Patrick's Day

Of late, Don and I have been dealing with the loss of his mother, and now I'm back on deck and able to do my weekly reports again. Thankyou for everyone's support during this time, it has meant a great deal to both of us.

On St Patrick's Day, we have had an incursion at the centre called 'Floating on the Sea' which was stories from Japan. This was enjoyed by children and parents.

St Patrick's Day was fun with lots of green splashed everywhere, children wore funny glasses, hats and shirts

Cooking experiences have been in focus with scrambled eggs and jam drops.

The story that goes with jam drops is they were a favourite childhood memory of grandmother by our Peruvian nephew Zac. He was cooking them in Peru in his memory of her passing while we also cooked them, a joint memory.

Children enjoy story times each day with them keen to bring their own books in for us to read. We played lots of action games for building physical skills and talked about nutrition which is extremely important for children to understand. We also discuss sun protection on a day to day basis and have just received our high level standard for accreditation, which we are all very proud of.

We still have a couple of vacancies for 3 - 5's so come in for a browse and a chat and receive our information package.

Road Safety Skills, Social Skills

Over the last 2 weeks St Marys Blinky Bills Pre-School has been focusing on road safety, social skills and our Accreditation visit which went very well.

We are working on Sun Protection as an issue with the children and families via surveys about sun protection knowledge, photo's and discussions.

We have also been adding to our walls and displays with visual craft experiences
that the children assist in creating, to go with our many songs that we sing daily.

Our centre is open to family visits for new enrolments.

Hugey Wugey Spider

This week we created Hugey Wugey Spider to go with the song; this is one of many songs we sing at St Marys Blinky Bills Pre-School. Staff introduced a variety of experiences through our groups this week with meditation, yoga, bingo and they went on a bear hunt. The children love these action themes. Our staff attended an RTA In-service to gain further knowledge on up to date practices in this area. Our first staff meeting for the year was held with reflections of our 2010 happenings.

Australia Day celebrations

This week has been busy with more new children starting out at St Marys Blinky Bills Pre-School and staff settling them in for a fun day. During the week we all celebrated Australia Day with special hats and lots of photo opportunities. Small group experiences occurred with children keen to construct our Robot for the wall based on a story and a woolly sheep from our songs. With the temperatures outside at a high, we made the most of inside activities as the centre is airconditioned and wonderful.

Our first week back had a mixture of old and new children attending.

St Marys Blinky Bills Pre-School staff has been settling the children with many fun activities during the day.

Our new garden has been used well with some children stepping on the stones to reach the other side while others found a more adventurous trail. The refilled sandpit was met with excitement by all the children.
